Samuel David Lev-Landau (American, 1895-1979) - Fresh From the Depth, Oil on Masonite. Signed. Signed again and titled on the reverse. 56x51cm. Samuel David Landau, a painter known professionally as Lev‐Landau, died Sunday of a stroke in St. Vincent's Hospital. He was 83 years old and lived with his wife, Lola, at the Chelsea Hotel, where he also maintained a studio. His work has been shown at the A.C.A. Gallery, 21 East 67th Street; the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, the Corcoran Gallery in Washington and the Dayton (Ohio) Institute. In 1965, he was awarded the Albert Dorn Prize of the Audubon Society. He had been a member of Artists Equity Association of New York since 1952, and served on its board of directors from 1970 to 1972. Also a poet, Mr. Landau wrote for Jewish‐American publications.
