Horace Hone (British, 1754-1825) - Miniature Painting on a Celluloid Box, 1781. Oval silver frame mounted on a rectangular celluloid box. Painting signed and dated. Painting: 4.5x3.5cm. Box: 7.5x11x2.5cm. Horace Hone was a prominent society portrait miniature painter, was appointed an associate member of the Royal Academy in 1779. In 1795, Horace Hone was appointed miniature painter to the Prince of Wales, then the future George IV.
